This month, we’re excited to spotlight Kevin Bazar, one of our dedicated Advertising Operations Associates.

With a background in marketing and keen attention to detail, Kevin has been a key part of our team for over a year, ensuring our advertising campaigns run smoothly.

Read on to learn more about Kevin!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do as an Advertising Operations Associate?

Kevin: As an Ad Ops Associate, there’s a lot that I do. To narrow it down, media planning is the core of my work. I ensure that we’ve set up our client’s campaigns accurately based on the contracts we receive from our sales team.

What sparked your interest in advertising operations and marketing?

Kevin: It’s kind of a crazy story. In my 3rd year of engineering, I took an Advertising Communications course to fulfill an elective and it changed everything. My professor saw potential in my work and encouraged me to pursue advertising. No other professor expressed this kind of encouragement, so I listened. I switched my major to Media Advertising, with a minor in Computer Science. I’ve developed a passion for marketing & advertising so I’m going to keep on going with this path and see wherever it takes me in life.

What’s a typical workday like for you in this role?

Kevin: My typical workday ALWAYS starts with a fresh cup of joe from my at-home espresso machine. No way you can work in advertising without caffeine (just kidding)! After that, I’ll start my workday reconciling advertisements that dropped that morning and make sure all of them ran while achieving their quoted sends. Next, I’ll check up with the Ad Ops team to see if there are any tasks that came in overnight. By the time the afternoon hits, I’m deep in our Trello board reviewing upcoming deadlines and communicating with our sales team and clients on upcoming drop dates. At the end of the day, I go through our house advertisements and ensure they’re accurate and not past due.

How do you keep up with the latest industry trends and changes?

Kevin: I dig deep into eMarketer newsletters to check out what’s going on in the marketing world. AdAge is another very good resource I use to keep up with all types of trends.

Are there any routines or habits that help you stay productive and successful?

Kevin: Decompressing. I try and do that after every workday, even if it wasn’t a difficult one. I find it extremely beneficial to managing my productivity and avoiding burnout. Yoga and long walks around my neighborhood are my go-to ways to unwind.

What’s a hobby or passion you enjoy outside of work?

Kevin: A cool little fact about me is that I cover my alma matter’s (UTEP) athletic program on my social media page. My handle is @SSN_UTEP on Twitter/Instagram just in case you’re curious. I’ve been doing for this for the past two yearsish, and I must say I’ve developed quite the passion for it. Not only am I a sports enthusiast, but I’m probably the biggest UTEP fan you’ll ever meet. The fact that the university lets me work with them in covering their athletic programs is so cool to me. I tell people all the time I’m living the dream because not only do I work in my degree field, but I’m also doing something I never thought I could ever do in my wildest dreams! Sadly, UTEP isn’t that popular in the region like it used to be. My goal with my social media page is to raise awareness amongst the fanbase and make people love UTEP again. The movie “Glory Road” on Disney+ will tell you a little bit more about this small school out in this West Texas town of El Paso that I care for so much. (Marty Robbins reference if you got it)

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

Kevin: I don’t care what anyone says. A pizza is a form of a pie. I think we’ve all agreed on that part. If you can have pies designed around pineapple flavors, why can’t you put it on a pizza? Let that sink in for a bit.
